It is never too late to place your baby or child for adoption.
Wherever you may find yourself in the process of considering adoption, Building Blocks Adoption Service can guide you through the steps involved. There is no set timing for choosing adoption. At Building Blocks Adoption Service, we know that women who experience an unplanned pregnancy can be shocked, surprised or even fearful when discovering they are expecting. Adoption may not be the first option some birthmothers think of when they discover an unplanned pregnancy. Some birthmothers decide on adoption early in their pregnancy, while others choose adoption when they are closer to delivering. Some birthmothers even choose adoption after taking their babies home.
Deciding whether to place your child for adoption is a choice you get to make. This is your choice. No matter what you choose for your unborn or born child, you are supported at Building Blocks Adoption Service. We understand that the choice you ultimately make will have been well considered and thought out.
Some birthmothers may feel like they are giving up on their child or turning their back on one child while parenting another. At Building Blocks Adoption Service, we want you to know you are not giving up, but instead providing your child with a chance to grow and develop into the best person they can be.
Where to start? The steps to placing your baby for adoption.
Our adoption caseworkers are highly skilled and experienced in providing assistance to birthmothers considering adoption, guiding them through every step of the process.
Step One: Contact Building Blocks Adoption Service
Contact Building Blocks Adoption Service to discuss your questions and concerns as you consider adoption for your child. You can call or text, and all contact is confidential. By providing minimal information, including your name, location and contact information, we can get you started in the process for considering adoption and possibly placing your child for adoption.
Contacting Building Blocks Adoption Agency does not mean you have to choose adoption. By contacting our adoption agency, you are getting to ask the questions you have about adoption. You will not choose an adoptive family unless you choose adoption as your plan for your unborn or born child.
At any time during or after your pregnancy you can choose to start the adoption process. We want you to be completely confident in your decision. The choice to place your baby for adoption is yours, and only you can make this choice.
Step Two: Meet with an Adoption Caseworker
When you contact us, you will be able to set a time and place to meet with one of our adoption caseworkers to discuss your needs and concerns about the adoption process. The adoption caseworkers at Building Blocks Adoption Service will happily meet wherever you are most comfortable, including in your home. At this initial meeting, you will complete paperwork, providing things like your personal information and medical background, and be able to discuss your adoptive family preferences. At this meeting, we also discuss how we can help you get through the next few days or months.
Step Three: Consider What You Want in an Adoptive Family
Many birthmothers are surprised to discover they get to choose the family that their child will be placed with. At this step in the adoption process, you provide input about what you are looking for in an adoptive family. Based on this input, we provide you with adoptive family profiles, which include information about each family.
Step Four: Decide on an Adoptive Family
Once you have had the opportunity to consider our family profiles, you can choose to meet in person or on the phone with as many families as you want. Your adoption caseworker will be with you every moment when you are meeting the families. Once you have met with all the families you feel may be a good fit for your child, you will be able to choose a family to adopt your child.
Step Five: Exchange Information with the Adoptive Family
Once you have decided on an adoptive family, and depending on how open you want your adoption to be, you can choose to exchange contact information with the adoptive family you’ve chosen. You can also choose whether to have them attend doctor appointments with you. Whatever the degree of openness you’ve decided on for your adoption process, we will help set the parameters and ensure your wish are being followed.
Step Six: Create Adoption and Hospital Plans
With the guidance and help of your adoption caseworkers, you will develop an adoption and hospital plan. The adoption plan lays out your wishes for how the process of adoption will go for you and your child, including such things as how open you want your adoption to be and whether you will maintain contact with your child once the adoption is complete. The hospital plan lays out your wishes for the birth of your child, as well as how the process of adoption will go once you go into labor and have given birth. Building Blocks Adoption Service will share these plans with the hospital and the adoptive family. As with every other step in the process, your adoption caseworker will be with you at the hospital, if you so choose. We will work with you to ensure you are comfortable with the plan you’ve created and to ensure your wishes are carried out.
Step Seven: The Birth of Your Child
You will be able to decide, while creating your birth plan, whether you want to room in with your baby or whether you want your adoptive family to begin caring for the child once it is born. Whatever you decide, your Building Blocks Adoption Service caseworker will be with you to ensure your wishes are carried out.
Step Eight: Post-Adoption Support
Even after you have relinquished your child to the adoptive family, you will continue to have support and care from Building Blocks Adoption Service. Your adoption caseworker will stay in contact with you as long as you need. You will be able to receive updates, photos, and letters from the adoptive family. You will never be alone. You will have added to your family, and the adoptive family will have added to theirs. If you are considering adoption for your child, Building Blocks Adoption Agency can help you sort through any questions you may have about the process. We are always here for you.
